Q: Why are you involved with Awaken?
A: Jim Wardlaw and I have known each other for about four years. We’re both EOS Implementers. I was involved with last year’s Awaken conference and Jim asked me to contribute some of the EOS tools to this year’s conference.
Q: What is the nature of your presentation?
A: I’ll be focusing on giving leadership teams ideas on how to lead, specifically with how to hold people accountable. Often, expectations are not provided to employees to know what it means for them to succeed in their roles. Leadership is about creating a good vision, communicating that vision, and giving people direct instructions on what they need to do to be successful in their roles – leaving little room for misunderstanding. There’s a lot of confusion around what a good leader/manager should be, and my hope is that attendees will gain insight as to the gap they fall in as far as being a good leader/manager. It’s all about striving to be better and to accomplish the goals set forth.
Q: In your opinion, why is organizational culture important?
A: It’s the glue that keeps the team together and allows people to work together so that they leverage each other and their unique abilities to get to a higher level.
Q: What are you looking forward to at this year’s Awaken conference?
A: I’m looking forward to building on Jim’s vision and leveraging the momentum that he gained from last year’s Awaken conference. It was a fantastic event last year and so worthwhile; it reached a small niche within the community. This year, Awaken could have a broader reach and is able to be realized as a capstone in pursuing culture within an organization or business.
Q: Attendees will be learning a great deal from you and other presenters at Awaken 2020. What specifically do you hope to learn?
A: I would like to get out of my own box and see how other people approach creating culture so that I can expand my reach and how I implement EOS.
